Trouble in South America.
I British Guiana has voted a war grant I so says the cablegrrmmer. There has been trouble between British Guiana and Venezuela, very similar to the troubles that arise between any neighbours when the boundaries of one's possessions are not clearly defined. Venezuela liea on the north of South America, and has a long northern boundary on the shore oi the Carribean Sea. It is bounded on the west by Colombia, on the south by Brazil, and on the i east by British Guiana. i * * £ British Guiana comprises a vast area, though on the map it looks but a paltry property, estimated at 109,---000 square miles. The Venezuelan boundary has not yet been properly defined. The property still left in question contains the valuable mines known as Venezuelan. *** • . - The Government consists of a Governor and a Court of Policy of 15 members besides the Governor— 7 official and 8 elected by the direot vote of the people. The revenue is only £602,762. The Government, before going war, will have to imitate the Turk and borrow the Where. with-all to fight with. :- : - •-;: * * Venezuela's PoßHioM^s;^^jfflfc is a Republic comp'o^ea *ibf < B" s lt«iari it baa an area of 508459 square miles and nearly 2£ million of population. It has a revenue "of £1,454,---454. Thus by themselves the Venezuelans have the best of the deal, but British Guiana hold .the. "right bower " of Britain', s assistance.
