New Clothing Factory.
The Wellington Woollen Company have decided to make a new departure and have a clothing factory in connection with the mill. Mr tleeles, the Manager of the Company has lost no time in making a start, . having secured temporary premise/! in a large brick building at the rear of Sharland & Co.'s stores. The start has only just been made, and, about 30 to 40 hands, chiefly girls, are employed. The power to work the sewing machines is provided by a sis h.p electric motor which works all day without any attention. The power is turned on in the morning; and turned off at night, and there is no smell, no noise. . The sewing machines are ranged along the strong narrow tables, and the Bhafting runs under the tables. By a simple pressure of the workers* feet on the treadle the maobine is put in motion and immediately stopped by withdrawing the pressure. There 13 one very pretty irmhina we *-aw at work making the stitching round the button boles whioh makes beautiful work and takes very little time. * The Company have let a oontr^ok for a new building on the reolaiffle^' land in the immediate neighbourhood of the other soft-goods houses.
