« FOXTON v. POROUTAWHAO. The first match of the season was played between the above Clubs at Poroutawhao on Saturday and resulted in a win for the Foiton Club by 4 runs and 2 wickets. The Foxton men played two men short. The day was wet and showery. Poroutawhao went first to the wickets and put together 47 runs. Foxton followed on with 35 runs. In the se* cond innings Poroutawhao put together 60 runs, which left the Fox* ton team the difficult task of 78 runs to get to score a win, which they were successful in doing with the loss of six wickets. For the Poroutawhao team McMeekan and Bob were the raost successful bowlers, and for Foxton Harrison, Ingram, Blake and Martin. The most successful in batting were Eastwood 17 and 14, McMeekan 5 and 18, for the losers, and for Foxton Betty 12 and 19, Harrison 1 and 26, Furrie 8, Cole 9* The following are the scores : — Pobouiawhao. — First innings.
