« The ordinary meeting of the above Counail was held yesterday in the Council Chambers, when there were present — Ci'a Rinsom (chair), Taylor, Masters, RobLison, Strangand Hammond. The minutes of the previous meet* ing were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was read and dealt with : — From C. Clansen, offering to sell the Council 100 sleepers. From Messrs Goodbehere and Richmond, re the case of Whishaw and Burgess at the S.M. Court, Feilding, in which the case was dismissed, and asking that the amount of costs, 103 6d, should be reimbursed by the Council. From E. Piggofct, re unsatisfactory repairs at the Shannon Ferry. From the Manager of the Bank of Australasia, re reductions of interest — Received. From Mr Luxford, asking that the bridge on the Main Drain road be put into position again. From M. A. White, complaining of the state of the road leading up to his section at Mt. Robinson. From the Treasury advising the payment of £125 into the Council's credit. From Manawatu Road Board with account of the Council's share of cost of I'enewing the Awahuri bridge. From Secretary of the Sluggish Creek Drainage Board re construe tion of work in the Oroua river, and asking the Council to contribute towards the cost of same. From Chief Inspector of Machinery re the provisions of the Act requiring all drivers of machinery to have certificates of efficiency. Mr J. K. Orr, re transfer of name on rate roll. From a number of ratepayers at Campbeiltown, a petition asking the Council to open up a road from Jones' line to the CampbelltownLoogburn line. Proposed by Cr Robinson, seconded by Cr Hammond, That Cr Wilson be granted leave of absence from this meeting. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Robinson, seconded by Cr Hammond, That the overseer put the bridge*, in order complained of by Mr Luxford. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Robinson, se-

conded by Cr Masters, Thai the . overseer report on the protective works near Mr Honour's section. — Carried. Proposed by Or Hansom, seconded by Or Taylor, That the overseer visit the road desired to be opened up by residents in Campbelltown and report to the Council the cost of opening up said road. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Taylor, seconded by Cr Masters, That Adam Johnston be allowed rations to the amount of 5s per week during the pleasure of the Council. — Carried. The Council went into Committee on the matter of the tramway/ Several letters were read re the Government's refusal to take over tbe running powers on the Levin* Greatford railway. It was decided to leave the matter in the hands (of 1 tbe Chairman and Mr J. G. Wilsoq, , M.H.R., to deal with. - * *" Proposed by Cr Hammond, seconded by Cr Robinson, That this Council take necessary steps to raise a loan under the Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886, of £650 for thf purpose of trimming and metalling Howe's line and the unmetalled I portion of Hammond's line, the special rate to be struck over the whole of the Waitohi Biding, and that in the meantime interest be paid out of the separate rate.— Carried.
