The motion then con, in ued to state that the Synod deplored the presence in the E stabi lished Church of England of clergy and laity who teach -many Romish doctrines contrary to the authorised dicti-ine* of the Church of N;w Z •aland, and that many societies ( vhicti he named) protnoced by tha c «rgy of the Established Church of Eigland maintain and ettqotu : »gc the teachings of such doctrines. Finally the motion declared that no clergyman of the Church of England 'who maintains, or has been engaged in the teaching of any of such Romish doctrines, shall hereafter be appointed a minister of the Church of New Zealand. On the motion of Archdeacon Fancourt, however, the Synod decided not to allow the motion to appear on the Order Paper, by an overwhelming majority, only two clergy and two laity voting in its favour. Mr Ray was also defeated on a motion that the division be recorded, at leng'h in the minutes jo(:ihe,syfiod.— N.Z. TSma.
