Sib,— Since coming to Wellington, I have been much impressed with the importance of the ret»u3ci alien of the flax trade. They all agree 1 that if the Government would agree to grant a bonus on the flax exported, the industry could be revived* Will the Government agree to this course? I see no reason why they should not. They assist the dairy industry, and cvi dently propose to assist the frozen meat industry. They have helped the Bank of New Zealand to the extent of several million?, while here, for a few thousands a year, they could resuscitate an industry of compar%t|jvely greater importance. It seems tv me that, if your fluxmillers at Foxton will take steps to make an organised effort, there is every hops of success. There is probably uo Other industry that employs so much labour as the flax industry, and at a time like this suoh an industry would be of immense value to the country as a whole. If those of your residents who are interested in the matter care to take action and convene a meeting, I shall be glad to qttetjilif $hey wish, and give them whafcassistance I can to achieve a successful result.
