Death of Mrs W. Park.
The news of the death of the wife of Mr W. Park, our late Mayor (although not unexpected) on Satur> i day evening, at the early age of 3§ : years, caused a feeling of sincere regret throughout the whole eonrmunity. Nearly a year ago Mrs Park Was thrown out of her buggy while driving near Awapuni, and ever since her last child was born, a few months subsequently, she has been suffering intensely from some internal injuiy. As there appeared to be no indication of improvement in her condition) Dr James was summoned from Wellington to perform an operation, but the case was found to b« hopeless, although Mrs Park lingered for nearly two months afterwards. Mr and Mra Park were married in Hokitikia, where they Were brought up. The large circle of friendd who had the experience of her personal acquaintance keenly ieel the loss of one who was uniformly kind, amiable and charitable, and whose life was unsullied by a single selfish or unworthy action. Her whole existence was centred in the happiness of her husband and children, and her home life was one continued round of devotion and family affection for those near and dear to her, tempered with a courtesy to strangers, which won all hearts. It is almost needless to say that heartfelt sympathy will be felt for Mr Park and his ten motherless children in their severe bereavement by the whole commnnity, the great consolation being that one has gone to her rest who has fully earned the reward of a "good and faithful servant." All the flags in the town on Sunday were hoisted half-mast as a token of respect for the memory of Mrs Park. — Standard.
