The Wool l oomooloo Tragedy.
It is now stated that the operation of abdominal section was performed on Miss Nicholls while she was in a state of collapse, and was rendered necessary by the unskilful way in which the first illegal operation was done. The operation, it is said, was most crudely and barbarously performed. A person styling himself an American student assisted at it, and he has fled to Newcastle, where the police lost trace of him. It is believed the body of the child was burnt. The body of an immature child has been found in the harbour, and is supposed to be the missing link in the tragedy. In. view of the Woolloomooloo tragedy and other recent illegal cases, the necessity is being discussed of amending the Medical Act with the object of stamping out unqualified practitioners. Feeling on the subject is very strong;~Press Association.
