■'■ -.-■ -■ x * The ordinary meeting was held last night at 7.30 at the Library Biddings. Present— His Worship the Mayor (T. P. Williams), Cre. Jenks, McMillan, Hamer, Walsh & Westwood. The minutes of the last meeting Were read and confirmed. The correspondence wag next read. The clerk put before the meeting the balance sheet for the past year, duly audited, and Cr Jenks proposed, , and Cr McMillan seconded, That the balance-sheet be received, adopted, and signed by the Mayor. Carried. Proposed by Cr Walsh, seconded by Cr Westwood, That Mr R. Gray be allowed to plant deehluous trees fronting his property. Carried. | Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by C Jenks -That this Council re oommend that " The Local Government Bill " be postponed until next session, owing to the numerou? and comprehensive matteis contained therein, and the important issues in volved in the changes proposed to be made, and that a copy of this resotion be sent to Mr Wilson, M.H.8., and ask him to oppose the Bill this session. Carried. Proposed by Cr Westwood, seconded by Cr Walsh, That on completion of the Ladies' Mile contract, a special meeting of the Public Works Committee be called, and that the committee be empowered to pay for the same. Carried. The Council went into committee on the cemetery question, and it was proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr Westwood, That the necessary information be given to Mr Alzdorf by the clerk to enable the resolution passed by this Council in June last re cemetery be carried out. Carried. Proposed by Cr Westwood, seconded by Cr Walsh, That the thanks of this Council be tendered to the retiring Councillors, and especially to Councillor McMillan for his services to this Council for several years past, and regret be expressed at his severing his connection with the Borough. Carried. The following accounts were passed for payment : — General account—John Sullivan, £6 ; Westwood & Co., 6s 4d ; Chas. Spring, £7 4* 6d; T. F. Gibson, £6 sa; charitable aid to Mr Boesen, 5s lOd ; transfer to Library account, J65 ; Mayor's expenses to Wellington, £8 19s 3d. Reserves account — Sullivan and Spring, £1 14s. Ferry Reserves account — Westwood and Co,, 18s 8d ; F. Martin, £9 ; same, refund dtposit, £1 ; W. B. Rhodes & Co., £1 163 6d. Library account — H. Blake, 16a 8d; W. B. Rhodes, 14s ; Thompson, 9< ; W. Park, £2 4s 8d ; N.Z Insurance Co., £4 17a 6d ; B. Spelman, £8 17s.
