To-morrow Messrs Gorton and Son hold their regular sale of stock at Feildiug. On Saturday Messrs Abraham and Williams hold their horse sale at Palmerston, We received a good sample of the Devonshire Kusset the other day, from Mr Richard Gray's orchard. It is evidently a good keeping variety. As it has been ascertained that a majority of the ratepayers in the Moutoa subdivision of the Mukaka River Board desire to erect the embankments themselves rather than saddle their properties with a loan, it is unlikely that the Board will proceed any farther with the formal steps necessary to secure a vote. Mr W. B. Rhodes has received a letter from Mr Broe dated Coolgardie 29th July in which he gives the satisfactory information that he has struck a very good reef. His party have taken up two leases and have traced the reef for fully ten chains and in addition have sunk a shaft 50 feet deep and cut the reef at that depth, showing fully 3J feet thick of stone of a highly payable character. On the same lease there are two other reefs which show gold of a like nature. The stone has been assayed, and it has shown 7soz. to the ton from an average sample without any picking. Mr Osborne listen to this :— Rabbi Wolfers, the Jewish musical historian, says that during divine service at the ancient Temple of Jerusalem a full choir consisted of 24,000 men. It is reported that a curate of political proclivities in the Barnstaple Division of Devonshire, astounded his congregation on Sunday. A shocking scandal has been revealed at Melbourne through the arrest of J. F, Gannaway, an ex-Congregational minister, for incest, it being alleged that his unmarried daughter has bore him several child ren. Gannaway's wife is said to be resident in New Zealand. The world's wheat crop is estimated at 232,000,000 under that of 1894. At the meeting of the Wirokino Road the following resolution was agreed to ; — That in consequence of the new Local Government B'll having been withheld from the County Council Conference, this Board protests against its becoming law this session, and is of opinion that all local bodies should have time to discuss it and suggesting amendments they think necessary : and that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr Wilson, with a request that he will oppose the passing of the Bill thiß session to the utmost of his ability. The Mail says influenza is still very prevalent in Otaki and district. The record for the journey between London and Aberdeen, 540 miles, has been regained by the North-Western express, which has travelled the distance in 512 minutes. Mr Curtis tbanks all those who rendered assistance at the late fire.
