Fires.
On Sunday evening the worshippers in Church were disturbed by the firebell. This was in consequence of a fire in the front room of Ml- 3. Marsdon's house in the Avenue. It appears that on Saturday some too inquisitive horse put his head through one of the panes of glass in the window of the room, and on Sunday evening opening the back door in the building created a draught. As Messrs H. Saville, G. Walls and A. Timmings were passing the house at seven o'clock they noticed a glare of fire in the room, which after entering the house, they found was occassioned by the window curtain being swept upon a lighted candle, which "had also set the bed on fire. These young men after much work succeeded in beating the fire out, and then they found there was a child on the bed. It was not until the fire was extinguished that the occupants in tha other rooms heard what was going on. The damage will not exceed fifty shillings and is covered by insurance in the Standard Company.
