New Zealand frozen mutton has advanced to 4d per lb. The trial of Jabez Balf»ur for ths Liberator frauds has boon fixed for 27th October. The Irish members of Parliament and the Radical newspapers are indignant at the appointment of Viscount Wolseley aa Coramanderin Chief. On the motion of the Government, the House of Commons by a majority of 182 has decided that Daly, dynamiter, who was returned for Llmeriok city, is incapable of sitting for that constituency in the House of Commons. Mr J. W. Lowther, member for the Penrith Division of Cumberland,j has been elected Chairman of Com* raittees of the House of Commons, in succession to Mr J. W. Mellor, Q.C.. Mr Lowther was one of the Temporary Chairmen in last Parliament. Mr G. W. Curzon, Under-Secre-tary to the Foreign Office, states that Prance has accepted the hypothesis of the buffer State on the Mekong. The French expeditions on the Niger, he added, had returned, and the French Government fully recognised the rights of Britain in that district. The conditions which would render the evacuation of Egypt possible had not yet been fulfilled. ....... It is "reported he is afraid l-to return until the Ameer is allowed direct diplomatic representation in London. The Shahzada has delayed his departure after taking leave of the Queen five weeks ago, and hints on the subject are of no avail. He does not leave Dorchester House, and refuses to see any officials. Fearing an attack he has laid in a store of arms. The balance of the Tekoa's sheep sold at 35s each.
