Asparagus bed* should have had a good dressing of manure and salt. If not yet done do so at once. Rhubarb that has been taken up should now be planted. Most roots will show signs of sprouting even where pitted. Mr Barnett has arranged for a capital programme for the cantata " Under the Palms." which is now being printed and will shortly be distributed. All who take an interest (and who does not?) in this performance should make sure of getting a copy of this programme. The earthquake on Saturday evening war a very curious and severe one. It came without any warning rumble and appeared like the huge swell of the ocean, being a strikingly long steady roll, in the direction from east to west. It continued for close on three minutes and cv rything hanging from the wall and ceiling swung quickly but evenly. A good bit of land is and has been ploughed around the town this season. Mr W. Dudson has some 15 acros under oats, Mr A. S. Eaton about the same quantity, Mr Thynne has seven acres in, Mr White five acres. There are others getting land ready and within a week or so Mr J. E. Whyte and Mr Wbibley will have the plough going. This is as it should be. It is intended to take the vote for a loan for the Mukaka River Board in two distinct ; amounts, so that the objectors, if any, in one sub-division, need not damage the | chances of those in the other sub-division. , The general meeting of the Lawn Tennis ; 1 Club takes plwe to-night.
