Notes and Events.

At the inquest on the Oatterthum victims, the second mate said at 2 o'clock on Thursday morning the captain told him to alter tha course north 40 east, and witness promptly obeyed the order. The ship first struck on the port bow, abreast of the fore rigging, and then amidships. The first blow was severe, and the second slight. When he caught a glimpse of the Seal Rocks on the port side it was eight minutes before the ship struck, and he hauled her out three points more, and informed the captain, who was in the act of coming on the bridge when the steamer struck. Everybody was sober. The steamer was travelling at the rate of 11& knots. She be* cams unmanageable eight minutes after striking, being waterlogged. The reason she listed to starboard was owing to the coal falling out of the hold on the port side. The only remark the captain made was, " Good God i what has she struck t" Witness replied, " A reef off the Seal Rocks." The second mate further said, in the course of his evidence, that two look-out men had reported there was no danger, and had he not altered tht course the ship would have gone right on the reef.
