Snowed Up.
» (fhe./WfiCartertott correspondent wires : — Fire men engaged on a bush-felling contract on the Tararua hills, named Lodder, W. Smith, Job Salisbury, and Hobman ('2), I?ere snowed up on the hills, and two of of them have just got back. Search parties ate out* The bush-fellers were short of food,, and went over the ranges to the Waiohine Totara Flat, with guns and otic dogi in search of pigs on Tuesday morning. They were caught in a snowstorm and lost their way. The two Hobmans tried to find camp by a short cut, the other three keeping to the stream. The two parties never met. Lodder was knocked up, and Smith and Salisbury struggled on a few hundred yards further before they gave in. They took shelter in some scrub, and started off early in the morning and reached Knutsen'a house, where they got food and rested two hours before going on lo Greytown. They told Knutsen their mate Lodder was behind, and asked him to give Lodder some " tttckei'*' if he came in. The search party found Lodder dead, __ _,
