The New County Chambers at Sanson.
Toe new offices just completed at Sanson are both commodious and oomfortable and some slight description of the building may be of interest. It will be remembered the former premise! were destroyed by ' fire, and the new building was by the councillors tor the first time yesterday, and the general opinion wai expressed that the architect had faithfully carried out big designs. The entrance to the building is from the street by a hall or waiting room, 12 feet by 18 feet on the right hand side and the olerk'f office adjoins on the left, which is a cosy room 15 ieet xl 2 feet. In a, cprner facing the street is placed a large Milner'g safe, bricked in and cemented. This room has two entrances— one into the hall and the other infco the council chamber. The councillors' room is a large room 28 feet x 17 feet, with a dado and a coved ceiling, both constructed of narrow diagonal match-lining, divided into panels by styles and rails. The room is also lofty, with a height of 14 feet, with a ventilator in the centre. The walls above the dado are scrimiued, lined and papered with distempered paper of a light green color, and is also divided into panels by styles and margins of salmon paper, harmonising with the painting of the ceiling and coves* while the dados, doors, windows and faoings are flat varnished. The facings are large fluked architraves of a very handsome pattern. The reporters have had erected for them a most substantial desk, and the other appointments of the room are first-class. The fireplaces, of which there are two, are unusually small, but so well constructed that they an excellent heat with very little fuel. Behind the Council chamber is another room, which will most likely be used for storage purposes. The building has had an outside colouring of dark brown, richly picked * out with white, and the fencing and stables have also undergone a thorough painting. The total co3t of the building, inoluding everything, was £221, and the office should prove to be most conveniently built and a credit to the council. The architect was Mr L. G. West, of Palmerston North, who designed and supervised the building and Mr J. Dillon carried out the carpentering work.
