— — -+ The ordinary monthly meeting of the above was held at the Council Chambers, Otaki, on Monday. Present — Crs Davies (acting Chairman), Venn. Hurley, Richards, Smith, Sly and Tompsitt. The following resolutions were passed : — That this Council respectfully ' urge upon the Government the necessity of consenting to an Order by the Governor in Counoil being*' •£ made for the construction of the proposed Manawatu Junction Bailway line, and that the Government give an assurance to take running powers over the line when com* pleted, as empowered by section 219 of the Public Works Act, 1894, and that the Chairman and Cr Payi<w- bjKgr requested to join the deptitaftrao »3L wait on the Government to aupporfc the resolution. . , r That the action taken' 'bf^mt Council re the Otaro stream wai taken solely in the interest of *the Wirokino ratepayers, and witjr jt fj view of assisting that Road Boa^d, and that the vote of thanks from iuoh ratepayers be received wUh pleasure",* but the reply of that Board |£th deep regret, * That the manager of the Bank .of Australasia be requested to gV&ttf * A 0? extension of the overdraft mentioned in the resolution of March 16th w) the 31st October, the Council agreeing to pay interest, and that Crs Eebbell and Smith wait on My Costello and confer with him on the matter. That the establishment of a pound , at Levin be left in the hands ol C}r* r Davies and Kebbell, and that with; | the view of getting a suitably liife/r' Therefore the Chairman be requei&e4i;< ' to apply to the Government fojr a; -« suitable reserve. j That the Railway Company h*^: written to, asking them to be goc>4 jij enough to shift the present crossing.^ north of the Hautere siding, pp..posite the Hautere road, so as to r i lead through to the County roa^^ And also put a few loads of metal between the outer and inner gates at _. TeHoro. ' That the Council draw the atUntion of the Railway Company to the ,\ nuisance and danger to life likely to, ]? be caused by moving their tanks at , : the Otaki station. That while their v engines are taking in water and •; ehutting off steam, that horses, etc., will not pass over the crossing. That permission be granted 46"Prouse Bros, to lay tramway as requested, subject to statutory conditions, the work to be performed to the satisfaction of Councillors. That the Tokomaru Councillors bi" empowered to proceed to Wellington with a view of obtaining from -the.; Government assistance for re-erect* V;} ing the bridge over the Tokomaru, 1 destroyed by the late floods.
That the Chairman be empowered to finally settle the balance-sheet for the year ended 81st March, 1895, and that the same be published in accordance to law. That Mr McCulloch in future deal with any applications for alterations *-in rate books, instead of coming before the Council.
