A Lady's Letter.

Wellington, Ang 10, 1895

Since last I Wrote, there have bpen three dances, Mrs Hutchison's last Monday night was a very brilliant affair and was much enjoyed by a large number of guests. The decorations were very tasteful and consisted of red and white camellias and delicate ferns.

iutchisun and wore a very pretty aowD ot pale coral pink, slightly trimmed with white lace. Miss E. Hutchison ffore a simple pale blue crdpon frock with sash to makh. Among the guests were Lady Stout, who wore a rich black brocade gowa, dimmed with a jet fringe; Mrs H. D. Bell wore pale sea green silk trimra d with jewelled embroidery and white chiffon frills ; Mrs Pynsent, very hai.dsome gown of pale heliotrope silk much trimmed with velvet of a darker shade ; Mrs Daniels, lovely pompadour silk, with a gathered vest of pale pink satin fastened with large diamond buttons ; Lady Alice Boyle looked very well in pearl white satin, trimmed with lie lace and small white roses ; Miss Crace wore soft white silk with lace frills ; the Mis3ts Williams (Hawkes Biy) very pale blue merveilleux gowns trimmed with white lace ; Mrs Moore (Wanganui) handsome black moire antique gown trimmed with jet, Miss Moore, white satin gown, made very plainly and trimmed slightly with lac** ; Miss Miller wore a pretty blue silk gown with large sleeves of blue brocade and chiffon frills; others were Mr and Mrs Allen (Dunedin), Mi 1 and Mrs W. On Thursday afternoon last, there was a large • At Home ' at Govern-.-ment House. Among those present were Bishop and Mrs Wallis, Mr, Mrs and Miss Seddon, Sir B. and Lady Stout, Mrs Dowling, Mr, Mrs and the Misses Bowen, Mrs and H Miss Stowe, Mr and Mrs Lowe, Mrs s Travers, Mrs T. M. Wilford, Mrs (Dr) Hamas (Auckland), Mrs Watson, the Misses Williams, Mrs A. .Russell, Mr, Mrs and the Misses Lingard, Mrs Hewitt, Mr and Mrs W. R. E. Brown, Mr and Mrs J. G. Wilson, Mr and Mrs Luckie, Mr* and Miss Trimmell, Mrs Stafford, A the Misses Seed, Mr and Mrs J. E. Smith, Mrs Tregear, Mrs and Miss Simpson, Miss Turnbull and many others.

Mrs Harding's dan<Je on Friday night was a very jolly one and was much enjoyed by about sixty-five guests. The pretty decorations consisted chiefly of daffodils and violets. The music was supplied by King, the extras being played by Miss Brandon and Miss Montgomorie. Mrs Harding wore a handsome black brocade gown, trimmed with jet embroidery and white lace ; Miss Harding wore white satin trimmed wiih pink gauze and jet ; her sister wore white satin and lace. Miss Montgomorie, (Wanganui), who ii staying with Mrs Harding, wore a pretty pale pink gown. Mrs Hutchison wore a handsome black silk gown trimmed with yellow silk ; Mrs 0. Izard, orange satin gown ; Miss Russell <wore a stylish black silk gown ; Miss Burnes wore a very pretty white satin gown trimmed with jewelled embroidery. The Misses Williams, Johnston, Gore, Edwiu, Barclay and others were present. Last Thursday afternoon Mrs (Dr) Grace entertained a number of her friends at ' Tea.' There were several session visitors present.

On Friday afternoon Mr and Mrs Robert Pharazyn entertained a very large number of guests in the same way. This afternoon Mrs E. J. Mills gave a large • at home.'

Mrs W. Johnston has issued invitations for an 'At Horn* ' for next Tuesday afternoon.

Mr and Mra N. Reid gave a very enjoyable little dance last Thursday night.

Some of the session visitors to Wellington are Mrs and the Misses Reynolds (Dnnedin), Mrs and Miss Miller, Mis and the Misses Bowen (Christchiireh), Mrs and Miss Moore (Wangumii), the Misses McLean (Dunedin), Mra James Allen and Miss Fraser also of Dunedin. Mrs J. G. Wilson (Rangitikei), Miss George, Miss S. Baker, Miss Isaacs, and Mrs (Di) Haines, all of Auckland, the Misses Williams and Mies Ru-rdl (Hawkes Bay), Mra and the Mhscs W. Hutchison (Danedin), Mrs and Miss Acland and Mi- 8 Roileston (Christ-church), Miss Mont. Pfomorie and Miss Daniels (Wanganui) and several others that I cannot remember.

Lady Dorothy Boyle has gone to Christchurch to stay with Mr and Mrs Boyle.

Miss Crace, who has for some time been a guest at Government House, has gone for a trip to Wanganui. Sign*.
