A Lady's Letter .
* X ; <MbtirimsßL. July 10, 1895. I mast begin my letter by telling you about a most successful tioiidet't that was given last Monday riight nf the Wellington Festival Choral Society. It was given on this occasion for a charitable purpose, the Hospital, and I think a goodly sum must ihave b,een> .realised,-, &{)%)!*? Pw* Hpupe} espseiall* the I ,^m^ttflTep|d stalls, was well filled. The DeautiMl ,oTatori;o S^-Paul was ; pprfarm^ ti and much praise, is due;, to '$K fl°OT** :?ar&CT (conductor)* #>r >yte f/WyW worked up the' choruses. Madame Eveleeo Gavlton, lately ,|rom. .Australia, took the soprano part, and | certainly .did . it .wellffor ;She f haa a I'vpry nice clear. -and, true ssss j§^f received two lovely; bouquets, dqrjng " the evening. Miss Parsons was'thft contraltpj and the part suited .her admirably Slie wfts very" lbtlttl/ applauded for the beautiful solo 'Jl'or the Lord is mindful of His own." Mr Pi-ouse, who is always splendid in this sort of music was the bass, and Mr Pollock the tenor. Lin-d Glasgow, Lady Alice Boyle, Miss Crace and Mrs Clayton were among the audience. Lady Alice was wearing a soft white muslin fi-ock trimmed with lace, red opera cloak ; Mis 3 Crace Wore white silk nnd light velvet cloak bound with white fur. Others I noticed were Bishop and Mrs Wallis, the latter wearing a black surah silk gown and deep orange velvet cloak, trimmed with feather ; Sir Robert and Lady Stout, the latter in black brocade ; Mr and Mrs Miller, the latter wearing a handsome black silk gown, and an Oriental pattern cloak ; Sir, Maurice O'Korke, Sir James Prendeigast, Mrs Seddon, who wore black silk and velvet and white cloak ; Miss Sed* don wore a-very.gale pink gown and white &\% trimmed cloak ; Mr and Mrs; G.J Hutchison, the latter wearing black velvet and jet; Mr and Litchfield, Mrs Rhode 3, Mr and Mrg J. Though the heavy rain certainly damped the spectators and players clothes, it didn't seem to hav.ejjie. game effect on their spirits' for _ everybody was as jolly as possible ttnd seemed indeed) to think \%~fc great joke walking about in the *keVy I myself was glad enough to seek the shelter of 4he >heds wherein delicious hot tea and cakes were to be bad, fthich, .was I believe kindly given by Mrs H. D. Bell, who is the ladies' captain. After the Governor had declared the Club opened, Mr J. Wardrop -(captain) made a very excellent ' speech. Lady Augusta Boyle, accompanied her father, also Miss Grace atid Capt. Prestoti. The members of the Hunt Club werß invited to rftlend, which a nnmber of then). did , : fcnd very nice the ladies looked i i tr their costumes of black 6kjcfce?ib»^Ut red blouses: andsblaok" ties, "black 1 Bailor hats with ved b^nda, THb : Wellington Club ladies also lodkefl very nice in black skirts, yellow blouses and black ties, black hatswith yellow and black diagonal striped bands. Mrs Gore entertained a large tiulttbßi?*of her friends at an after-: noon " At Home " last Monday, and on Thursday Mrs Litchfield entertained in' the same way. SIGNA.
