ManaWatu County Council.
The ordinary monthly meeting was held at Sanson yesterday at 11 p.m. Present — Crs Ransom (chairman), Robinson, Hammond, Masters, Taylor, and Strang. The minutes of the previous meet* ing Were read and confirmed. The clerk reported the election of Cr D. W. Strang for Awahou Riding. From P. Guerin, ranger, sending his report, and account for £5. From A. Bottcher, Gampbelltown, asking permission to erect a fence across Weir-street. From John Stevens, Bulls, respecting rates for Sandhill Block 111, and IV, saying the Meisrs Robinson Bros, now were leasing same) and that a transfer be made in the rate-book to that effect, and they Would pay the rates in future. ; From Walter Rutherfurd, secretary, saying the Hospital Board had struck a levy of 5a in the £1000 rateable value, and that the amount to be paid by the Council would be £195 123.
From Clerk Manawatu Boad Board, sending a statement of expenditure on Awahuri Bridge Work.
From P. Desmond and others, drawing attention to the condition of that portion of the road extending from the Feilding Borough boundary to the Aorangi traffic bridge.
From Robert Honour, Oroua Bridge, saying something should be done at once to the drain road.
From Frank Owen, surveyor, sending signed voucher for £10 15s,
for Oroua river protective works.
From Charles Pyke, requesting the Council to put in a bridge across drain intersecting the road line leading to his house.
From Clerk Sluggish Eiver Drain* age Board, asking that the gap out in the bank te the Main Drain
opposite to a culvert cut by or under tha direction of the overseer be
closed up. £rom John Kebbell, Ohau, exmember of the Executive Council of the County Council Association, re sending a delegate to Conference at Wellington, and that Cr Wilson had informed him that they did not intend to send a delegate owing to •■■• the expense, and trusting they wouldreconsider their decision, as twQ - important Bills — the Charitable Aid and Local Government, would hav§ to be considered. The chairman was of the opinion ■-■■ that it would be an unnecessary . expense, and the clerk was instructed . to answer Mr Kebbell's letter to that effect.
From John McGowan, commit sioner of Taxes, referring to payment of subsidy, and enclosing form of declaration.
From the Audit Office, returning certified balance sheet.
From Department of Agriculture, sending circulars on practical suggestions on tree planting for Arbor Day.
From R Edwards, secretary, asking for a grant of £15 to the Bandon Small Birds Nuisance Club,
RESOLUTIONS PASSED.
Proposed by Cr Strang, seconded by Cr Ptobinson, That Mr Guerin continue to be ranger over the Awahou Riding, taking driving fees in payment in future, instead of grant from Council.
Proposed by Or Ransom, weiUHkd by Cr Taylor, That Mr A. Bofcteler be allowed to place a gate upon Weii>street, in terms of the letter of July sth, the same to be removed at any lime on receiving notice from the Council. Proposed by Or Robinson, secojodfd by Cr Taylor, That the Sluggish. River Board be written to asking when the title of the road at^Oroua Bridge- will be ready, so thattwe can. form the same. *
Proposed by Cr Robinson, ap* conded by Cr Strang, That 1 thfe%wvert and gap be filled in as requested by the Sluggish River Board on Main Drain Road.
Proposed by Cr Hammond, se* conded by Cr Masters, That the pum of £10 be granted to the Small Bird! Nuisance Club for 1895. <
A deputation consisting of M«ifff Phillip3 and Stewart waited ojj /tifl Council and complained of the 19$* flooding their land at Awahuri, «dj3 asked that something should be done to remedy it. Mr Stewart was wtth ing to do the part which affected nil property, and others were willing to assist, provided the Council would make a small grant.
The overseer was instructed to visit the properties complained of, and report.
A. special meeting was held at 2 o'clock to pass the balance.ah^»L and Cr Robinson proposed, &&£ (ft Hammond seconded, That the Chairman sign the balance-sheet & read, and get 50 copies printed.-^ Carried.
The Council then resumed its or* dinary sitting, and after the ove* seer's report had been read, and the aocounts passed, the meetings §£.<* journed. ~'%-
