A Body Found.

On Sunday morning Mr George Huff, -a shepherd employed on the Wirokino run, found the body of a man on the sea beach, and the fact was reported to Constable Gillespie. It is surmised that it is probably the body of the other occupant of the steam launch Olga, but no one has as yet indentified the remains.

The Coroner held an inquest yesterday afternoon at Mr John Davies' residence, Wirokino, and the following jury were empanelled : — Messrs G. Coley, C. A. Harrison, T. V. Procter and R. H. Holcroft. Mr Coley was chosen foreman. George Huff said, yesterday afternoon, about half-past twelve I was on the sea beach, half way between the wreck of the Hyderabad and the old coach road. This would be about five miles south of the Manawatu. There I found the body of the deceased below high water mark, which the tide in falling must have left. There was a piece of his shirt on the body, a pair of boots and a pair of socks. There was no flesh on either the face, the ribs and the leg bones. I got two sacks which I covered the body with after having drawn it above high water mark. The body seen by the jury is the one 1 found. I should think the man's age would be over fifty years. I have no doubt but that the body was washed up from the sea. John Gillespie, constable, said that at seven o'clock yesterday evening Davies' reported by letter that a body had been found by the last witness on the beach. This morning the last witness, Mr Huff, pointed out the body to me on the beach. The jury were all present and saw the body at the same time. I made an examination and found the height of the deceased to be five feet eight or nine inches. Had brown hair, but there was only a v«ry small piece left at tha back of thl Iktill, Thjri wai thi grotto

portion of a striped cotton shirt, in reft) blue, and white strlpis. A palf of socks of reddish-brown colour with a white ring round the top. A pair of new blucher boots and laces. Bad set of teeth. From the appearance of the body we judged it to have been dead six or seven daytt The boots and socks were removed from the feet and the feet were perfectly fresh. There was no flesh on the trunk of the body. The only flesh adhering was on the feet, the hands, and the back of the skull. I should say, from the appearance of the teeth, the man might have been between fifty and sixty years of age. The boots and sookg and part of the shirt have been brought here and will be taken to the police station to assist indentification.

This being all the evidence available, the jury brought in a verdieft that a person unknown was fduid dead on the beach, v but by whpt means he came by his death no evidence Was forthcoming. '■
