A DELEGATE TO WELLINGTON.
TO THK EDITDH OF THE MASAWVTU HKBAI.D. But,— ln the last • issue you pub^ s^/itd a meeting of the Borough Council, and amongst other .resolutions pasßje,d'wns one authorising the expendilßto of five pounds to send a representative to a meeting of delegates in '"Wellington. Now, in the name of comniori^ense, what good would our representative .do there ? none whatever, and I think this is a gross piece of extravagance on thoir part, and- I think the ratepayers ihould protest ngainsk such waste of their money. They might just as well havo'paeacd five pounds to send their delegate to the Cattle Show or to the top of Mount Cook.. While they are cutting down in other quartewirthe custodian for instance, whose prior pittance was only enough to keep body and soul together, this tire pounds spent on the sea beach road, would have kept one of the Board's men on it for nearly a month. With £35 for licensing expenses, where before it cost nothing. £10 to the Mayor for a Christmas box, or " Honorarium " if you like it better. "We do pot see any of those little jobs in the Palmerston Borough Council. Hope you will find a corner in your* valuable paper for the above. I am, &c,,,-' Ratepayer. Foxton, July 4th.
