Manawatu County Council.
The ordinary meeting of the above Council was held on Wednesday, when there were present : — Cra Ransom (chair), Hammond, Taylor, Robinion and Wilson. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was dealt with : —
From Masters, re closing McDotiell's litte. From J. Mathers and R. Cogged, re culvert on Kellows's line.— Held over.
From D. McKenzie, re large stones on Bulls-Feilding road, near Mr Wilson's woolshed.— Resolved that the matter be attended to.
From the Colonial Treasurer, advising that £260, the amount of loan for protection works on the Oroua river bank at Feilding, had been remitted to the credit ot the Council.
From same, advising £1500, amount of loan for repairs at Awahuri bridge, had also been remitted to the Council's credit.
From 0. Bray, re extra work on the Oroua river protection works. From L. G. West, re new County Office.
From R. Boswell re excess of valuation.
From H. S. Morrison re bridges on the main drain road.
From D. L. A. Astbury re striking rates on unimproved value. From Colonial Secretary's Depart* went re the proposed new name for Campbell town, and stating that as there is already a post office named Kapuni it is considered advisable that another name should be selected.
Proposed by Or Hammond, seconded by Cr Wilson, That the new metal portion on McDonell's line be closed from heavy traffic for three months from this date.— Carried.
Proposed by Cr Wilion, seconded by Cr Hammond, That the letting of the extra pileß in the protective works on the Oroua river be left to Mr Bray, to the extent of £80.— Carried.
Proposed by Or Taylor, seconded by Cr Hammond, That this Council agree with resolutions passed at the public meeting of ratepayers at Stratford re taking unimproved value and that the member for the diatriot be requested to support such. —Carried. Proposed by Or Taylor, seconded by Cr Baosom, That Batana or Bangata be submitted to the Colonial Secretary aa a suitable name in lieu of Campbelltown. Carried. Proposed by Cr Bansom, seconded by Cr Hammond, That the estimate for the year 1895-96 as read by the Chairman be passed,— Carried. Proposed by Cr Taylor, seconded by Cr Robinson, That £150 be transferred from the general account to the credit account of the Carnarvon account, as agreed to.— Carried. Proposed by Cr Bansom, seconded by Cr Hammond, That notice be given that it is the intentisn of this Council at a special meeting to be held on the 10th July, 1895, to strike a general County rate of £d in the £ on the rateable value of all the rateable property in the Manawatu County for the year ending March 81st, 1896, and that the same shall be payable in one sum at the County Office, Sanson, on July 14th, 1895. —Carried.
