The Concert.
The concert in aid of the State School funds was a great success in 80 far as the performers were concerned, but owing to the wet night the attendance was not up to expectation, or as numerous as the merits of the performance deserved. The best thanks of the Committee all due to the performers and more especially to Mr Edmund Osborne who conducted all the part singing, and Mr M. J. Ennis who accompanied the performers on the piano. Oar notice will have unfortunately
be brief owing to want of space. The glee's went Well every one of them and were acknowledged by hearty applause. Mr S. Eiinis received an encore, and the duet between Mr Stansell and Miss H. Burr deserved it and the applause ceased Under the idea that the nerformers were returning. Miss Williams was in excellent voice and her songs were encored. Mr Eay, quite new talent gave " The Mighty Deep " in an excellent manner and received the deserved compliment of an encore. Mr Alf. Eraser's recita* tion " A Sailor's Yarn " was given with much force and received its meed of praise. Mr Stansell's song " Soldier #im " introduced a variety by having a chorus which was takefl up by the company on the stage. The glee •' Dame Durden " received an encore. Mrs Young and Miss Harley played the Orpheus galop as a duet for the opening of the second part With admirable spirit; The gem of the evening was the sweet singing of " She wore a Wreath of Roses " by Miss Harley, a young lady possessing a sweet and cultivated voice, her enunciation of the words b.eing most distinct ; in response to a vigorous encore she sang most plaintively " There's no one like mother to me." The audience endeavoured to secure another song, but the young lady only appeared to bow her thanks. The trio was nicely sung by Mr and Mrs Cook and Miss H. Burr, and then Mr Young pleased the audience with " Where did you get that hat " a verse of which he repeated in answer to the inevitable encore. Mr Lyall secured a recall for his recitation. The humourous trio " Listen to our tale , of woe " was excellently sung in character by Mrs Cook and Misses Williams and Burr and was most heartily applauded. ,
Mr Thynne on behalf of the Committee expressed their thanks to the performers, Messrs Osborne and Ennis, and the audience.
