The Egmont Nursery.

Mr James Laird is the proprietor of the above well-known nursery. For many years sales of fruit trees, shrubs, and flowers have been an* nually held in Foxton, and we are safe in saying that quite one half of the orchards in the neghbourhood have been planted with trees grown by Mr Laird. It is superfluous therefore to say that his stock has always given satisfaction. We find in the catalogue a memo worth Doting about the apples offered for sale, which is, they are nearly all grown at Mavis Bank, Westmere, on ordinary soil, in an exposed position, and from being annually moved can be transplanted with perfect safety. In the catalogue we also note that a very large number of apples are marked blight proof, and they are all grafted or budded on Northern Spy or Majetin Stocks, which are known to be blight proof.

Mr Laird mentions that there is every indication that the disease peaches have for some years been subjected to, is now passing away. We hope so, though the indications in this district are not very plain. Mr Laird only grows the choicest varieties, and prices are reasonable. a Besides the stock we have mentioned, garden and flower seeds can be obtained from Mr Laird, and early seed potatoes, and lawn grasses. We speak from our own knowledge of the first class stock sold from the Egmont Nursery.
