Mukaka River Board.
The following is the continuation of the business transacted at the Board's meeting on Thursday : — Proposed by B. Gower, seconded by W. Langdon, That the application of the deputation appointed and minuted 30th April, to the Bank of New Zealand for an overdraft of say £350 be confirmed and that the Bank's offer to advance the same be accepted.
Before considering the tenders a long discussion took place on the specifications and partly on finance. It was eventually decided to open the tenders.
The Board went into committee to consider the tenders, and we have been requested to withhold the an* nouncement of the tenders until contracts are signed.
For No. 1 contract 2 tenders were received, being those of H. McKay and R. Walden ; No. 2 contract, 4 tenders, being those of J. Walden, A. Murphy, B. Walden and J. Yaxley ; No. 8 contract, 2 tenders, A. Murphy and W. Parlane ; No. 4 contract, 4 tenders, J. Walden, ftL

A letter was read from Mr Wallace of Shannon, to the effect that at a meeting of settlers at Shannon a deputation was appointed to meet the Board as early as possible to discuss means of dealing with flood waters.
A letter from Mr Howe to Mr Strang was read about a cut from the Oroua Bridge to the river.
Mr Wallace also sent another letter asking for a conference as to freeing flood waters. He mentioned that Mr Edwards had given intimation that the erection of riverbanks was illegal. They intended to form a river board on the Shannon side if tho Mukaka Board did not desist from embanking. He desired a conference.
Mr Strang attended to lay these letters before the Board and
Mr Langdon thought it would be desirable for the members ot the Board to meet these gentlemen. The Manawatu Railway Company had practical men who would assist all in coming to a conclusion. He would move that a day be appointed to have a meeting.
Proposed by W. Landgon, seconded by B. Gower, That the letter of James Wallace chairman of the Shannon Committee be acknowledged and that the members of the Mukaka *■ River Board will be happy to meet with the members of the Shannon Committee on Saturday the Bth inst. at the Moutoa school house at 11.30 o'clock. Carried. After lunch the Board again met. Proposed by B. Gower, secondec. by W. Langdon, That the lowest tenders be accepted for contracts Nos 8, 4, 5, G and 8. That fresh tenders be called for 1, 2 and 7. Carried.
(The lowest tenderer for No. 8 contract is A. Murphy ; for No. 4 contract, F. Munden ; for No. 5 contract, J. Windsor ; for No. 6 contract, C. Nelson ; and for No. 8 contract, (Tenders for contracts 1, 2 and 7 are invited in to-day's issue and must be in by Tuesday morning. Tenderers had better note that they will be substantially different from those previously tendered for.) Proposed by W. Langdon, seconded by S. Carter, That tenders for oontracts 1, 2, 7 and 9 to 1G be not accepted, Carried. Proposed by B. Gower, seconded by W. Langdon, That F. Carter be employed as overseer by the Board in place of Mr Ashby at 8s per day when employed. Carried. The usual accounts were passed. The meeting was adjourned to Tuesd-y at 18.80 a.m.
