Jack Brown's Story.
'■■•■'■ Jfick Brown describing himself as late officer in the English army, iged sixty and native of Brighton, appeared the other morning before 'M. Goron, Commissary of Police, and made the following statement in finlfest French, which was not very „ grand : — " I am in the habit of cultivating ; the bottle. The day before yesterday "it Brighton I took copious libations, tnd some of my friends took a ticket for me from Brighton to Paris and tied, it by a string to the button-hole of my coat. They then put me in the Newhaven train, and told the officials to see me put on the boat, "which they did. At Dieppe I was put in the train and brought to Paris owing to my having a placard on my back, on which was written " Brown is going to Paris." On leaving the train, I went to the Credit Lyonnais where I once had an account, and believed I still had £25 to my credit ; but, on the books being referred to, it was discovered that such was not the case. In the meantime I am hungry and thirsty (especially the latter) and I want to return to Brighton, but, unfortunately, I have no money." After patently listening to Jack Brown's pathetic story, M. Goron advised him to seek the advice of the British Consul, who would no doubt tell him what was the best course to pursue. It is now said that; Jack Brown has returned to Brighton, but with the recommendation not to repeat the same joke ag^l|^; v ; . : .
