Some of the recently discovered terra cotta statuettes unearthed in the Hellenic cities both of Greeoe and Asia Minor, are remarkable for their queer distortion. Art critics and- archaeologists have been accustomed \o attribute those to the imagination of the artists, but now they have attraoted the attention of the medical men, who are showing that they represent, with great fidelity, diseased and deformed conditions, and furnish One more proof of the great aocuraoy of observation of the Greek artists, as well as giving us an opportunity for the study .of ancient deformities and ties.The latest ' contribution to tha BU«Jwtis?t»4Vof a : Ffittoii^Mhority ' : on craniology,#ho has made a close examiflaflbn.: .of the .heads of the figuriues- in the Louvre Museum, and fid3B Hhat they exhibit all the ' different, kin.cfa of cranial deformity known to- modern times, both conn, genital and. artificial. All those deformities are faithfully represented in the figurines, and the treatment is .plainly humorous, showing that the artists had do.
