Foxton v. Saxdon.
The: above match was. played at Sandon yesterday, and resulted in a .victory for the visitors by 6 points. The Foxton men arrived at Sandon a little before noon, and punctually at 8-, the game waa commenced, a large number of people turning out to witness the match, a great number of whom were;, ladies. The ■ground used,w.as the. .school ground, which was very slippy, owing to ,the previous rain* and' it tended towards stopping what would have been a,.fast game throughout, thereby confining the game chiefly to the forwards. About 15 minutes after starting, H. Saville got a splendid *'ush on, froin.whieh C. O'Loughlin scored a try for Foxton. H. Lyall was entrusted with the kick, which was not successful. W. George, for Sandon, then crossed the visitors' line, which was easily converted into a goal by W. Mclntyre. This last score was LUAde;juat .befe&e/halfttime, and the first spelt ended to Sandon's credit . . by : twdi joints. Shadbolt, from rather* 'a difficult angle*; •.Eesult, .Foxton 11 points j Sandon, 5 points. The game was played in a very good spirit, and was npticeable for the abscene of any disputes or de« lays. The duties'of line .umpires were undertaken by Messjs Saunters and Anderson, aa'd tbj^offioe of referee was capably 'filled fey "Mr Geertson. Those that played up .well for the winnei'3 were L." Cole, Shadbolt, P. Williams, Chuck, and the smart tricky play of Saville was by far the . best on the ground. For the. losers, . W. and J. Mclntyre played well, also . ; F. Howe and W. George. At-.the conclusion of the game the visitors were invited to partake of a . sumptuous tea, provided by the San-,cton-.QJuU, which was, done amjole justice to.
