Hebrew Catacombs.
In the presence of the Italian Minister of Education the ancient Jewish cemetery oh the Via Appia< -near Rome, was recently opened to the general public. This cemetery consists, not of ordinary graves, D&tr : of\ catacombs, containing a large niim» bor of niches, in which the Jews of ancient Rome, deposited their dead, The walls of these subterranean tombs are covered with inscriptions in Latin, Greek, and Hebrew, and ornamented Jerusalem and the religious life of the Jews. Thus the cemetery, aoobrding to the Minister's - opinion, is both a shrine and a museum of great- interest and hia torical value.
