«~ Theohairman.of the N.Z. Farmers' Dairy Union met a number of the milk suppliers fit Palmevston last week, He admitted the accounts had been made out in an unsatisfactory manner, but correctly. A better system was being introduced. They would save from £800 to £400 a year by Mr Birch's retirement, and hoped for a further saving in office axpenses. He thought probably the work of the Union had grown beyond Mr Robert's capacity.
Mr Brown, the chairman, said tbe rate for batter in England must rule the price advanced out here, and to finable them to pay 3d per gallon the price must be 995. The Union had about 50 tons of butter in hand at Wellington, all otherwise had, according to cable, been sold but he did not know at what price. It was a fact that the prioe was regulated to a very large extent by the price of frozen meat. The classes in England who used colonial butter preferred meat, and when the price of meat was low, they would not take breach and butter.
Acknowledging the present unsatisfactory system of testing milk, the chairman said thu Directors were thinking of adopting a new system.
