The 4t^bn» dance numbered some 700, larger 1 than the postponement led one. to. hope for. The Sanson cont|nj*ot numbered near 100 andihe^e|ffiftj; and Palmerston train broagint^re?t' on 400 passengers. Vieitora ftbm the South of the Manawatu and Wellington were also present. * The fields were all good, starting with seven ending with thi* teo&Qtt a field. No protests or objections were made and no accidents except the fall of Canard in the hurdle fatce, which, however, was nothing. The officials all worked well together. Mr McMillan, the hon. sec, gained much credit for the conduct of "the meeting. His assistant, Mr Frase/, 'was always at his post, oognsßbu& and attentive. The judge, Mr Davidson, had a very close finish .in the last race, otherwise the issues were settled before the post was reached. Mr Woods, the startet, got his fields well off, and a particularly good one, with thirteeii starters, was excellently managed, in frjjmi of the. stand. The totaUsafcor . %ai , worked without a niton. Excellent order was maintained throughout, though there were a good many of the undesirable class on the ground, as Constable Gillespte with three other officers, one of whom was Constable Fennofather, 4 once stationed in Foxton. prevented their carrying on their nice little games.
