A public meeting in London, : largely attended, carried resolutions calling upon the Government to interfere in the Armenian question. A large number of people assemb[ert at Plymouth to welcome Stotldart's team on their return from Australia. The Spanish Government has apologised for the action of the war* ship of their flag in firing on the Alliance in Cuban waters. The wool sales on the 6th showed more spirit. Good merinos are firmer. In the House of Commons the Bill to repeal the Irish Crimes Act was read a second time by a majority of •H.votos. • The small majority by which the Bill to repeal the Irish Crimes Act was carried in the House of Commons is attributed to a large number of the Liberals having abstained from voting. ' Lord Rosebery, in the course of a speech in London, reproved the Liberal members for this, and said | that such action magnified the diflicultie; and bred despondency among the party. The Government, the Prime Minister said, would continue their 'work till they were defeated, but the smaliuess of the majority ought not to ferment bulking in the ranks. The continued obstacle of the House of Lords was not the fault of the Government-, but of the Liberal ■•Party, ••which must bestir itself.
