The Borough "Council invites tenders for leasing the Target Reserve for one or three years. Tenders must be in by Tuesday evening.
The .following tenders were received by Wi Hemara "for the erection of a "fourroom house at Motuiti:— H. Aldridge, £119 (accepted) ; A. Jonaon, £127 10s ; A. Speirs, £143 19s ; J. W. Liddell, £145 10s ; A. Musgrove, £154. ''* ' .'
Mr J. Whyte received twelve tenders for draining and accepted that of Messrs Wakefield and Howe.

The- -other day Mr.Brad.cock was good enough to bring to our office a specimen of the flying fox of Australia, the skin of which, cured ready for mounting, he had received from some friends residing in Victoria. We had intended to have supplemented this statement with some description of the animal, but have been unable to consult a good authority. The most; curious part of the animal are its wings which bear .the p-ppearfiuce of blaok oiled-paper.

Victoria is far ahead of the other colonies in her export trade iv poultry.-
The Chief Inspector of Babbits for Victoria reports last year there were 86;()00 foxes destroyed, and 5s per head wfes paid for them. The Government paid one-half of the subsidy, and the shires the other half. Of wild dogs about 1,000 were destroyed. The Government paid 10s a head and the shires another 10s per head for them, making £1 for each dog. They were getting very scarce now.
