After Twenty Years' Captivity,

A man named Nicolas Chenavel, has just returned to France from Germany, after over twenty years' captivity and some remarkable adventures. He was made prisoner at Sedan when Bazaine surrendered, but escaped and joined the Army of the Loire. Again captured by the Germans, he was sent to Dresden. There he revolted and killed his gaoler. He was for this act sentenced to prolonged imprisonment in a fortress, but in 1883 he again escaped. He was close to the Austrian frontier when he once more fell into the hands of the German authorities, who sent him to Posen. There he was imprisoned until recently, when, with 12 other men, made prisoners at the time of the war, he was released.
