Artesian. Water in Queensland.
"la November last," Mr W. G. Cox, 0.E., writes to the Queensland*? "yon published my telegram from Boafenan Station, Bt. George, stating that a 4,000,000 gallon flow of fresh w»t«a<tacUjußt been struck on that Italian by Mr J. L. Woodley, contractor/ at a depth of 1500 feet. Mr WoocHey has now contracted to put Wwk; another bore on Boatman oaeßj^S^aiky. The grand results her secured by the first bore have encouraged the lessee to again endeavor to tap the artesian stream. ' Should No. 2 bore proie a success, and the flow be at all in volume anything, approaching to that obtained by the No. 1, it will be possible, and it is proposed, by means of a blind creek and its ramjfioations, to water about 400 gqua»e-mileß of what is at present ttftuuMtilable country, and which will increase \h& carrying capacity of the run by 100,000 sheep. One half of fcktr 'vtst stream from No. 1 has JSe&U dams on the Nebine, and Jlv Qftftk also for a distance ot 20
miles to the station boundary, and the other half has been carried by drains for 30 miles back. The drains are 4 feet wide and 9 inches deep, and are to be further extended. The sheep water at them without difficulty. Tkis system waters eight paddocks in what was dry country. It is the intention to excavate tanks in which to conserve the water, and only turn the bore water on when they require replenishing."
