The French Consular Court at Cairo adjudges thai the Canal Company is absolutely French. An appeal has been lodged against the decision, and the result is awaited with considerable interest, as involving the claim of exclusive jurisdiction of the Canal. The Convention of 1866 describes the company as Egyptian. There is much friction between the English and French members of the commission engaged in defining the boundaries of the buffer State between Burmah and Siam. The French are accused of seeking to establish a military post on what is really British territory. The British Government intends to place a garrison in Eingtung, as a measure of precaution,
