European Earthquake.
.». The whole of Southern Austria and the north of Italy have been affected by a great eartbqnake. The population of Laibach is camped in the streets. Thirty-one shocks were felt, accompanied by incessant subterranean rows of the most terrifying description. Every house in the town was damaged, and the railways in the locality are so twisted about as to be unworkable. Many lives were lost at Venice. Thousands of people are camped in gardens. The streets of Trieste are blocked by people praying upon their knees. At Fiume the shock emptied a theatre, and the city was stricken by panic. Every boat available was filled with fugitives making for ships in the harbour. Considerable damage is reported at Arco, Goritz, Chilli, Velden and Krainburg.
