« The ordinary monthly meeting was held at Sanson yesterday at 11 a.m. Present — The chairman (V. C. Ransom), Councillors Wilson, Hammond, Robinson and Taylor. The minutes of the last meeting Were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read as follows:— From -chairman Manawatu Road Board, applying for Council's share of contract monies for construction of Awahuri Bridge, as the Board Wtire without funds to go on with the work. From Yaxley and Yanko, asking for an extension of time of three weeks to 1 start their contract on Tompkins' Line. The clerk was instructed to reply saying that an extension of time could not be granted, as a start had not yet been made with the work. From Charles Edwards, asking the Council to form and stump about 7 chains : of Trent street:, Sandon. * From J. Delaconrt Rtisflell, vicar of St. Andrews', Bulls, requesting a portion of .Ouse street, be metalled at Campbeiltown, as a church was about to be built in that place for mem» hers of the Church of England. From A; Shadnolt, Foxton, saying he had been appointed ranger for the Borough of Foxton, and offered to carry out the arrangements made with the late ranger by the Council for the sum of £4 per annum, and half the driving lees. — Held over. ' From Treasury Department, re overdraft. From Councillor Strang, applying for leave of absence, as he was still detained through illness in the hos • pital at Wellington. — Granted. From Barraud and Cohen, offering % Safe for sale, and agreeing to accept any reasonable offer. From G. Anyon, complaining of detention of flour by the tram. From D. Fitzgerald, re state of tram line. From J. McOulloch, clerk to Horowhenua County Council, send* ing account for licensing expenses to date. Proposed by Or Hammond, seconded by Or Wilson, That cheques to the amount of £200 4s lOd for the separate account., and £892 2s Id for the general account be handed to the Bank of Australasia, to meet the balance, due on 31st March. CwgrifliU Proposed by Or Ransom, seconded by Or Wilson, That the Bank of Australasia be requested to grant the Council an overdraft for current expenses during the year ending 81st March, 1896, to the amount of £1600. Carried. Proposed by Cr Ransom, seconded by Cr Taylor, That the Government be asked to re-name Campbeiltown " Kctpani." Carried. Proposed by Cr Wilson, seconded by Or Ransom, That the clerk write to the Minister of Lands and point out -that if the name of Manawatu is substituted for Palmers ton North that endless confusion is likely tc arise, as there is a county oi that name in which Palmerston North U not situated, and that the Ministei be asked not to accede to the request. Carried. Proposed by Cr. Taylor, seconded by Or "Robinson. That the account amounting to £328 18* 2d, due tc the Manawatu Road Board, an account for repaits to Awahuri Bridge be paid. Carried.
