Manawatu County Council.
The ordinary monthly meeting was held at Sanson yesterday, at 11 a.m. Present— The chairman (C, V. Ransom), Crs. Robinson, Masters, Taylor and Hammond. Theminute3 of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The inward correspondence was read. From Cr J.G. Wilson, asking for leave of absence from the meeting. From Cr. A. Strang, requesting leave of absence, owing to illness. From S. B; Turner, re sale of part . section 159, to Mr Pickering. From John Wilson, ferryman at Shannon, sending the account for gear purchased for the ferry. From W. H. Mathers, Taikorea, drawing attention to sand ridges between Messrs Orr and Eston's properties. From Rowe and Sons, requesting the Council to proceed with the metalling of the road from their mill to BroadbeU's corner. From clerk Rangitikei County Council, enclosing a copy of report of Mr Mackay, engineer, with reference to the state of the bridge over the Rangitikei River at Bulls. From L. G. West, forwarding a plan for approval of proposed new offices to be built. From Commercial Union Com* pany, sending cheque of £900, being amount of insurance for office lately destroyed. From Land Tax Department, r<? maps destroyed. From Geo. Ibbetson, flaying the cost of maps required would be £10. From Treasury, relating to interest due, and requesting payment. From Messrs Ballinger, Denton, and Tame & Go. sending particulars of fire-proof safes. From M. Morrison, Oroua Bridge, asking that a pipe culvert be re* paired as soon as possible, and that the formation of the main drain road be done. From Treasury, with reference to the loan of £250 for protective work on the Oroua River. From same, saying that the loan of £178 for the ..construction of the road to connect McDonell's line with the Main road, is now available. From Charley Bray, engineer, reporting on the tramway. The overseer (Mr Mitchell) sent in q his estimate of the cost of proposed road to be madetbrough Messrs W. Hunter and. Stewart's property at Awahuri, the price being £648 Ba. The outward correspondence and treasurer's report was also read. Proposed by. Cr Taylor, seconded by Cr Hammond, That Messrs J. G. Wilson and A. .Strang be granted leave of absence from this meeting of the Council. Carried. Proposed by Cr, Robinson, seconded by Cr Masters, That 40 chains be formed on main drain road, as requested by M. Morrison and others, tenders to be in. by next meeting of the Council. ' Carried. Proposed by Cr Masters, seconded byCr Hammond,' That the name of JL. V. Pickerings be placed on the rate»roll for part section 149, Kawai kawa, Native Reserve, in place of J. K. Turner. Carried. ' : Proposed by Or Robinson, seconded-., by Or Taylor, Tjiat the overseer attend to the cutting complained of by Messrs Mathers and Sexton. Proposed by Cv. Taylor, seconded by Cr Robinson, That Mr Bray be requested to meet Mr McKay (engineer to Kangitikei County Council) to inspect the. Rangitikei Bridge and report. Carried. Proposed by Cr Masters, seconded by Cr Ransom, That this Council pay Mr J. Thompson £20 progress payment on his contract, Sanson. Carried. Proposed by Cr Robinson, s> conded by Cr Ransom, Ttfct Mathers and Parlane be advanced £l& on the Main Drain road formation. Carried.
