- The Japanese have captured six gunboats in Wei-hai-wei harbour. The Japanese landed* at Chefoo the bodies of Admiral Ting and three Chinese captains who had committed suicide during the attack on Wei-h.ai-.wei. As the bodies were conveyed ashore the Japanese flagship minute fired guns, and the -whole fleet saluted, as a mark oi respect to the dead officers. The Japanese will refrain from attacking Obefoo, but are determined to dictate the terms of peace in Pekin, where the Chinese Court is preparing to fight. A Bill has been submitted to the Japanese Diet voting a further war expenditure of two millions. The Japanese have declined to open negotiations for peace at Port Arthur. It is reported that the Governor of Port Arthur has confessed that he was in league with Li Hung Chang to overthrow the Manchu dynasty. The captured warship Chen Yuen has sailed for Japan with a Japanese crew. The Chinese army at Ninchang continues to receive reinforcements. About 2000 people have been killed by the explosion of the magazine in the fort at Formosa. The Japanese insist that the peace negotiations shall bo conducted on Japanese soil.
