Foxton School Committee.

The Committee met at Ml* Kay'a office on Thursday lasfc. Present— Messrs Thynne (Chairman), Williamg, Spelman, Little and Ray. The minutes of the meeting held on 20th December were read and confirmed. The Clerk reported that a eonoerfc was given on the 9th January laat by the united choirs of Sandon, j Campbelltown, and Carnarvon under the direction of Mr John Sanson which resulted in a net gain of. £1 18s 9d. The Clerk reported that he had received from Mr W. Stewart, the head master, the names of eight children who had not made 'the regulation number of attendances for the weak easing February Ist. The following resolutions were passed:— - That Constable Gillespie be asked to prepare a list of all children under 18 years of age resident within 2 miles of Foxton State School. That Mr Stewart be requested to supply the Clerk with a return each week of absences under the Act and that the Clerk be requested to send notice to the parent in each case, of default. That in default of sufficient excuse, for non-attendance a prosecution under^ the? Act of last year be forth* with instituted. That in the case of Clara Fowler proceedings be taken to enforce the former order. < The Chairman stated that Mr Joseph Mayo of Palmerston North was a candidate for one of the vacanoieft on the Wanganui Education Board. 1 .. ; > .Ai conversation ensued. • A decided opinion was expressed that a local candidate should be supported and the following resolution was passed :— That Mr Thynne be authorised to plump for the Palmerstpri Candidate for the Board.The quesnori was discussed as to the action of the Board in passing a resolution authorizing the inspection by the Board's Inspectors of schools not under the control of the Beard and it was considered that the Board ought not to apply the funds of the Board for any such purpose. It was resolved * That the Clerk enquire if Mr Joseph Mayo is prepared to« support this action of the Board if ejected. T ■-• • . An account was passed for payment.
