How to Measure a Stack.
It; is not long since we were asked $ to publish a rale for ascertaining t&e : . weight of a stack by measurement. , Here is a good rule for finding the weight of the ordinary oblong-shaped stack with perpendicular end :— * Measure the end at the eaves and base, and divide by two to'obteug&pi* mean width. Multiply the mean width by the height to eaves. Now measure the perpendicular height*/ from eaves to ridge, multiply this height by the width previously taken at eaves, and divide by_ twa jblLtihe area of the triangular end;; add ,$e two areas together, and' miuUijtyHtjy the mean length for the cubic cons tents of stack. Beckon twelve cubic yards to a ton if fairly well settled, or ten yards if the hay has been stacked over a year, and has v heated v v In measuring allow a reduction of * a few inches at the outside for the loose hay. Clover hay is lighter than meadow hay. Other required for circular and ;sQHarr\ stacks. — N.Z. Farmer. .;r : *-j
Mr Monckton/ of Feilding-, »fefidfc.< to the Mercury a simpler plan :— Multiply length and breadth in feet and multiply that by the height measured to about a third atflfo the cave. Divide the atnpunt by 27 to turn it into cubic yards, 12 of wlncli represent a ton before l th^ii^ct mdpM is in, but 10 afterwards. -- ■ ':& -^«t -, ' '' ''. ' '■'■'■' "■■** ';•>'!■
