■+ About 10 o'clock on Saturday night as a man named John Harrington, a fireman on the s.s. Mawhera, was returning to that vessel he stumbled across a lever on the Wellington Railway Wharf and fell heavily. Dr Parkes was called to see him and on examination found he was very badly ruptured. He saw him again on Sunday morning, when he ordered his removal to the Hospital. Harrington, who is a single man, is between 60 and 70 years of age. A great Maori* meeting is now proceeding at Te Hauke, Napier, serving the two-fold purpose of mourning over the departed chief Hone Nea Nea and discussing matters of interest to* the Maori race. The body of a man was found on the road between Lyttelton and Chriatchurch on Monday, and is considered to be that of a workman named "William Robertson, who arrived in Lyttelton on Saturday night by the steamer Queen of the South. Deceased was last seen alive at 6 a.m. when he left the board-ing-house where he stayed the night, with the intention of going to Chrifltchurch. A small strap was twisted tiqhtly around the neck of deceased, and the polios consider that he com** mitted suicide. He appears to be about 85 years of age, and stands 6ft 7in. On Sunday steady rain fell at Christehurch for several hours in the morning, and was very acceptable to the farmers. Heavy rain fell at Greymouth on Sunday and was much wanted.
