Terrific gales have been experienced along the coast; of Great Britain, causing enormoua damage to property and many wrecks. The hurricane has been unequalled in severity for many y«ars. The velocity of the wind was 87 miles par hour. Numerous factories were unroofed, and bouses demolished. The coasts are strewn with wrecks, and it is estimated that over 100 persons have been d.owned. A committee of London share* holders in the Bank of New Zealand recommend the holders of shares in the colony not to pay the call until a full and accurate account of the assets and liabilities is submitted to them. The committee is consulting counsel as to the validity of the call, and ask the colonial shareholders to sub scribe one shilliug per share towards the expenses. Lord Randolph Churchill is seriously ill, and his condition is causing his friends considerable anxiety. Lord Randolph Churchill, who is at Marseilles, is paralysed on one side, and unable to recognise his friends. He will shortly return to England. The Manchester London express, crowded with holiday passenger.?, oollided at Chelford with the goods trucks of a luggage train, which had beea blown across th« line.
Thirteen persons were killed and forty injured. The driver of the Manoheiter ex« press Baw the lights of the luggage train too late, and was unable to stop in time to prevent the collision.
