CABNABVON SCHOOL CO. v. FOXTON SCHOOL C.C. This match* which may now be considered- an annual event, was played on" Friday in. Mr Eastern's Sddock, kindly lent for the occasion, istyear the visitors were victorious, winning &n the first innings by 24 runs. fortune smiled on theloq&l boys, and they scored an easy win over their more mature opponents by an innings and 21 runs. Owing to neglect of regular practice the Carnarvon youths have improved little or nothing in the "4lobl& game"" since last year; •' whereas the. play of the Foxton lads has improved immensely, and their superiority at all points was very marked. The weather was all that could be desired, and there was a considerable number of onlookers. A good many ladies from the Car-

n&rvon picnic patty graced the ' ground by their presence, and from time to time encouraged their young champions with full applause. For the visitors N. McKenzie, T. Mclntyre, and G. Harper (captain) played very well» but as already stated the most of the team Were a good bit 11 off colour " from want of practice. No doubt they will be able to give a better account of themselves in the return match which is to come off in the beginning of February, '95. The play of the local boya was good all round. The honours of the day rested with L. Fume who distin* guished himself not only with the bat and ball but in the field. His score of 29 was compiled quickly and prettily as well as carefully by a very fine exhibition, for a boy, of good cricket. A. Purcell also distinguished himself at the wickets as well as with the bat, and his score of 14 was welNearnod. The fielding of] the whole team was so good that to particularise individual players would be unfair, not to say invidious ; but mention must in justice be made of the excellent back-stopping of W. Thynne. This was so very good as to oall for approving comment from both umpires and the experts on the ground. We append the scores —
