• * — ■■ * — The following letter we only published a portion of prior to the meet log of the Otaki Licensing Committee. .\V riling, oi the transfer of Mr Campbell's license to Levin, the writer ?ays t— l think it would not be to the interest of the settlers and the travelling public generally, as it would give a monopoly, which is not good in any line of business, and I feel certain if a poll were taken to morrow the. settlers would vote against the removal to Levin. If the one is removed why not remove both, and let us either have two, as at present?/ or none, and not a monopoly., If more accommodation is required at Levin, why not enlarge the present hotel, and, when the proper time arrives apply for a new fioense. It is to be hoped that the Bench will not grant the application and allow a party of speculators to remove one place to the detriment of the other. As it is well-know that the so-called Wereroa township has . been cpt up.wjd ppld by .-private individuals, and i»as been bought chiefly by outside speculators who will not hnjild;>br Improve and therefore will be some time before there is any township. there, if ever. I am, '^ A' Maxakau Settler.
