Manakau.
A correspondent living in Manakau, and signing himself as "A Manakau Settler " has sent us a letter re the Licensing business. This is hardly right to publish whilst the' Committee is deliberating, but the following rebuttal of a statement made by Mr Campbell is to the purpose : — " I have heard that it was stated at the meeting of the Licensing Bench at Otaki on Friday that there were only 100 settlers in the Manakau district. There must be some mistake in that calculation, as 1 am pretty confident there must be 200 if not more. Also it was stated that the Manakau district was going back, this I can safely contradict, as it is one of the most thriving townships on the Company's line, judging by the substantial buildings and other permanent improvements going on all round. As I am a settler in Manakau, I cannot understand why those interested should wish to shift the license."
