Mr Valentine's Colonial Produce Distributing Company comprise! 50,000 per cent, preference iharei and 150,000 6 per cent, ordinary shares. Each is of the talue of J65. He hopes to issue shortly 20,000 preference shares and 60,000 ordinary shares. Messrs Nelson Bros, have been offered 50,000 fully paid-up ordinary shares on condition that they trans-: fer to the Company their entire English business, including stores, wharves and branch establishments. Eighty per cent, of the profits, after the payment of a dividend, is to be divided amongst consignors, the remainder amongst ordinary shares, which will be largely offered in the colonies. Mr E. M. Nelson, chairman and managing director for Nelson Bros., and Mr Valentine are to explain the scheme to the Agent-General for the Australasian colonies, and will request them to become a board of reference in connection with the Company. At the meeting of the Land and Loan Co. of New Zealand, the shareholders suggested that it was a, desirable to wind up the Company. The directors promised to consider the matter. The enquiry ordered by the Home Office into the charges brought against St. John's Industrial School, Walthamstow, by the Resident Chaplain, Lord Archibald Douglas, who alleged that shocking cruelty had been inflicted on children, under pretext of punishment, has ended, with the result that the charges have been disproved. Prominent Queensland and Tas< manian producers are forming a Direct Producers' and Consumers' Company, with a capital of £100,---000. The business will be solely the retailing oj colonial produce.
