A Lady's Letter.
Wellington, Nov. 29th, 1894. We have had a particularly lively week, socially speaking, since last I wrote to you and last night the Countess of Glasgow gave another dance. We began the week with Mrs Cook-Daniel's cottilon party, which was a great success, tho various figures being exceeding well danced and affording much amusement, especially so when the prizes, which were very handsome, were contested. A Bplendid champagne supper was done ample justice to at about eleven o'clock and the guests ffchen danced until after midnight. Among those present were Mr and Mrs Walter Johnston, tho Misses Johnston, Dr and Mrs Grace, Mr and Mrs H. D. Bell, Sir Walter and Miss Buller/ the Misses Williams, Duncan, Cooper, Gore, Grace, Medley, etc. Mrs Daniels wore a beautiful blaok silk gown trimmed with pink and brightened with magnificent diamonds. Mr Daniels and Mr •^ Turner were both helping our hostess to entertain. Lady Hector's "At Home " on Saturday ajternoon was a great suc--4 cess< ft number of guests— about 80 — bring present. Afternoon lea indocfrX strawberries and cream under the shady trees, tennis on the lawn all . combined to help to pass a very pleasant afternoon. Lady Hector wore a handsome grey brocaded gown and Miss Hector wore gobelin blue trimmed with deeper coloured silk, and a cream hat. Sir James Hector was present and also Lady Buckley, Mr and Clement Kirk, Mr and Mrs Burnett, Miss Jervois, the Misses Henry, the Misses Gore, Mrs Heaton, Mrs and the Misses Wilford, Mrs and Miss Jackson, etc. Lady Glasgow's dance last night was much enjoyed, there being about 40 couples, who danced to the- strains of King's band from 9 till 12 o'clock. The whole house was most beautifully decorated and was prettily lit with pink and yellow shaded lamps. The supper table in the dining room was also tastefully decorated. Lady Glasgow and His Exoellenoy the Governor, received together, in the drawing room, the former wearing a very handsome dull green brocade gown slightly relieved with pink and trimmed with lade and she wore diamond ornaments. Lady Augusta Boyle wore pink satin and lace, slightly trained and the Ladies Alice and Dorothy Boyle were dressed in white. Miss Jervois wore cream trimmed with pink silk ; Mrs "Vyerry, sage green silk and veltrimmed with embroidery ; Miss Eichardson, white silk and chiffon ; Miss Buller, cream satin ; Mrs Travers, black; Mrs H. Crawford, yellow silk and lace ; Miss Williams, blue satin and laoe ; Mrs Baldwin, white silk and lace and pearl embroidery ; Miss Bichmond, grey silk and steel embroidery; Miss Grace, white satin, and also Miss Coleridge, Miss Pearoe, Miss Douglas, etc. Mrs Izard gave a very nice little dance on Tuesday night in honour of Miss Lillian Izard's return from The Misses Izard wore pretty white frocks. A few among the. many guests were the Misses Johnston, Grace, Harding, Brandon, Duncan, Williams, and many others. The invitations for the wedding of Miss Gore and Mr Thomas Walter are'ouirtTiedate fixed being December 12th. The Athletic Sports take place next Saturday and Miss Pearce's picnic takes place the same day. Signa.
